HTC 10: How to Change Icon Packs

If you’re bored of the current icons you have on your Home Screen, then follow these steps to change to another set of HTC 10 Icon Packs.

As we dive further into the HTC 10’s theme engine, you will start to notice that when you change your theme, the icons can change as well. This doesn’t happen with every new HTC theme you install, but some of them do some with unique icon packs. Thankfully, HTC has given us a way to change the icons without having to change the theme.

So even if you aren’t a fan of the whole package that comes with a theme, you can just use its Icon Pack.

Now, setting a custom Icon Pack in a launcher isn’t anything new. Custom Launchers have had this functionality for years and it’s a very popular personalization feature for some people. Most OEMs though, they do not give the user the ability to change icons on the stock launcher that ships with the phone or tablet. Samsung has the Theme Store, but you can’t change just the icons, you have to switch to an entirely new theme.

Sadly, we can’t download a custom icon pack from the Play Store and apply it to the HTC 10’s stock launcher with this method, but HTC does give us a number of options to choose from with their theme store.

HTC 10 Icon Packs

  1. Long press on an empty space of the Home Screen
  2. Tap the ‘Edit Current Theme’ option
  3. Scroll down and tap on the ‘Icons’ option
  4. Browse through the options and tap the one you like
  5. Tap on the ‘Download’ button
  6. Tap the ‘Apply’ button
  7. Wait for it to apply the Icon Pack and then tap the Home button

Explanation

This process is very similar to the previous tip I wrote about how to change the HTC 10 Lock Screen wallpaper. Once you dive into the Edit Current Theme section of the Home Screen, we have a number of different parts of the HTC 10 theme that we can choose to customize. And just like how you changed the wallpaper from this menu, the process for changing the HTC 10 Icon Packs are very similar.

So you’ll want to long press on an empty spot of the Home Screen and then tap on the Edit Current Theme option within the Personalize menu that pops up. From here, scroll down and then tap on the Icons option that you see in the list. This will show you a number of Icon Packs that you can choose from HTC’s theme store. Go through them all and tap the one that you like the most.

This will bring up a screen where you can tap on the Download button to copy those icons to your HTC 10. After the download is completed, the button will change to Apply and you can go ahead and tap on that to apply this Icon Pack to your HTC 10. It should only take a couple of seconds, and you’ll be told the icons have been applied by a toast message that appears at the bottom of the screen.

Now, you just have to tap on the Home button to go back to the Home Screen of the HTC 10 and look at your newly downloaded Icon Pack. As demonstrated in the embedded video above, you can change these icons as many times as you’d like, and you can always go back to the stock Icon Pack at any time. So don’t be afraid to experiment since you can always revert the changes you’ve made by selecting the original theme (or icon pack) that you enjoy the most.
