Moto G4: How to Disable Quick Capture

Follow these steps outlined below to disable the double twist gesture that will launch the camera on the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus.

While it’s unlikely that the majority of Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus users will want to disable this feature, I felt it was worth mentioning anyway. I like to teach people as much about the features included in their phone as possible. So even if someone doesn’t want to disable this feature, they might not have even known it existed.

By telling them they can disable it, they will have learned about the feature and then can decide if they want to disable it or not.

I really enjoy being able to launch the phone quickly, but I don’t know if I’m a fan of this particular gesture. I haven’t used a newer Motorola device as a daily driver so I’m not sure how easy or useful this gesture is. Google has been using a shortcut on Nexus devices that launch the camera when you press on the power button quickly. I like this because I can start to do this shortcut while the phone is still in the pocket.

Thankfully, this camera shortcut is possible on the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus, so if you would rather do that to quickly launch the camera then you can.

Moto G4 Disable Quick Capture

  1. Launch the Camera application
  2. Swipe in from the left edge of the screen to reveal the camera settings
  3. Toggle the ‘Quick Capture’ option off
  4. Press the Home button to exit the camera

Explanation

Motorola is definitely not hiding the toggle for this feature. Someone might not know how to access the camera’s settings menu, since there’s not a menu icon in a corner for it though. But Motorola does expand this settings menu the first time you launch the camera. If someone doesn’t pay attention when they first launch the camera, or quickly swipes it away so they can take a photograph, then they might forget how to access.

So to start, simply launch the Camera application from the Home Screen or the App Drawer. From here, you will need to swipe in from the left side of the screen. If you don’t swipe in just right, you might activate the zoom feature. If that happens, just life your thumb off the screen and try it again. This happened to me a few times as I was preparing for this tutorial.

One the settings menu for the stock Motorola Camera application is revealed, you’ll see a Quick Capture toggle toward the top of the list. This option is likely enabled by default (it was for me), and all you have to do is tap the toggle to turn the gesture off. Then you can tap on the Home button to go back to the Home Screen and try out the double twist Moto G4 Quick Capture gesture to see if it works
