How to Change the App Drawer Grid Size on the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T

The launcher included in the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T allows you to change the grid size of the App Drawer, and here is how it’s done.

There’s a number of customization options included in the default launcher for the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T. Not as many as I would like to see, but I can understand the developers not wanting to stuff in every feature they could think of. Sometimes it’s better to keep things simple and at least there are more options than we see in the Google Now Launcher. For those of us who want more features, we can always use a custom launcher like Nova Launcher.

If you’re wanting to keep things simple and use the stock OnePlus 3 or OnePlus 3T launcher though, there are some things that we can customize.

Last week I showed you how to change Icon Packs on the OnePlus 3. Today, I’m going to dig into the OnePlus 3 Launcher settings even further and show you how to change the grid size layout of the App Drawer. The feature comes with three different options to choose from and I’ll be going over all three of them here today.

Note – This feature has been removed with the OxygenOS 4.0 update. For now, you will need to follow the how to change the Display Size of the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T guide to adjust the app drawer grid size.

OnePlus 3 App Drawer Grid Size

  1. Long press on an empty space within the Home Screen
  2. Tap on the ‘Customize’ option at the bottom right
  3. Swipe the lower card to the left three times
  4. Choose which App Drawer grid size you like the most
  5. Then tap on the Save button at the top right of the screen

Explanation

It makes me wonder why OnePlus lets the user change the grid size for the App Drawer of the OnePlus 3, but not for the Home Screen itself. If you are wanting to do this, you always have the option to change the DPI of the OnePlus 3. This method requires root though, so just be aware of that. So, to start, we’ll need to bring up the OnePlus Launcher settings and we do that by long pressing on an empty spot of the Home Screen.

This will shrink the home screen pages you have setup and then you’ll see three options to choose from at the very bottom. tap on the Customize option at the bottom right and this gives us a number of ways to customize how the OnePlus 3 Launcher looks and functions. We want to swipe that lower card on the screen to the left three separate times. This will take you to the App Drawer card and from here we have three different options to choose from.

OnePlus 3 App Drawer Grid Size Preview
The OnePlus Launcher gives a preview of how the App Drawer will look after you change it.

The default option for the OnePlus 3 App Drawer grid size is Standard and this shows the apps in rows of four columns. There’s a Small size to choose from and this shows the apps in rows of three columns. Lastly, there’s  the Large size and choosing that will show the apps in rows of five columns. So, if you want things to be more spread out, you probably want to go with the Small size, but if you want the apps packed in tightly then the Large size will likely be ideal for you.

You’ll get a preview of what the App Drawer will look like each time you tap on one of these three options. This is nice as it enables you to see the change beforehand. That way, you won’t have to keep going in and out of this settings area to change it if you don’t actually like how it looks. We saw a similar preview system in place last week when I walked you through how to set your own Icon Pack on the OnePlus 3.
