How to Change the Lock Screen Wallpaper of the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T

You can change the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T lock screen wallpaper in OxygenOS by following the steps outlined in this tutorial.

So many of today’s smartphones look and perform the same, that personalizing and customizing them has become very important to the consumer. This can be done with unique cases, root modifications that change the software’s functionality, and yes, even setting unique images as the wallpaper.

A lot of people even like to have a different image for the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T lock screen wallpaper, than what they always see on the home screen wallpaper.

Some OEMs embed this feature right next to the traditional wallpaper customization feature, while others disregard it entirely (and make you hack into the Android OS to do it). OnePlus does have this feature baked into OxygenOS, but it’s not easily accessible when using a custom launcher. So today I want to show you how to set a unique OnePlus 3 lock screen wallpaper that is different from the home screen wallpaper.

OnePlus 3 Lock Screen Wallpaper

  1. Download the Wallpaper You Want on the Lock Screen
  2. Launch the Stock Gallery Application
  3. Tap on the ‘Collections’ Tab at the Top Right
  4. Tap on the ‘Download’ Section on the Screen
  5. Tap on the Wallpaper You Want on the Lock Screen
  6. Tap on the 3-Dot Icon at the Top Right
  7. Tap on the ‘Set As’ Option
  8. Tap on the ‘Lockscreen Wallpaper’ Option
  9. Rotate/Crop/Adjust the Image How You Want it
  10. When Finished, Tap on the ‘Done’ Button at the Bottom
  11. Then Tap on the ‘Save’ Button at the Top Right

Note – It seems Google Photos (and likely other gallery apps ) also has this option as well, so you don’t have to use the stock Gallery application if you don’t want to.

Explanation

I really do wish OnePlus had put this feature in a more prominent location, but again, at least the feature is there and now you know where it is. So to start, you’ll need to manually download the wallpaper you want for the lock screen. When setting a OnePlus 3 lock screen wallpaper, we aren’t allowed to choose from the default set of wallpapers. The image needs to be in the screenshots or downloads folder in order to access it from within the stock Gallery application.

Once the wallpaper has been downloaded, you’ll need to launch the stock Gallery application. From here, you’ll see two tabs at the top. By default, you’ll be set to the Photos tab, but you want to tap on the Collections tab to see your downloaded images. Then you can tap on the Downloads folder and you should then see your recently downloaded wallpaper here. Simply tap on this image and it will zoom in so you can look at it in detail.

OnePlus 3 Lock Screen Wallpaper Set
You can move, crop and rate the OnePlus 3 lock screen wallpaper from here.

Then, look at the top right of the screen and you should see a 3-dot menu icon (if you don’t see this, tap on the image and it should appear). Tap on this 3-dot icon and then tap on the Set As option that appears in the overflow menu. This will show you an open with/set as option box just like you see at the very top of this tutorial. Go ahead and tap on the Lockscreen Wallpaper option and then you’ll see your image presented in a cropping tool.

After you have cropped and rotated your image to the desired effect, you can now tap on the Done button at the bottom right. This will take you to another photo editing screen where you can apply filters to the image. Once the image is exactly how you like it, then you can tap on the Save button at the top right and it will set the image as the OnePlus 3 or OnePlus 3T lock screen wallpaper. You can double check this by pressing the home button and then pressing it again to view the lock screen.

As you can see, the lock screen wallpaper has changed, and it will be different from the image you have as the home screen wallpaper. You can always go back and change this lock screen wallpaper at any time by following the steps in the guide above.
