2012 Nexus 7 on Groupon for $119.99

For a limited time, Groupon is selling Manufacturer Refurbished 16GB 2012 Nexus 7 for $119 and Manufacturer Refurbished 32GB model for $124.99. They only have a limited quantity and there has been over 550 of them already sold during this sale already.

Over the last couple of years our mobile technology has really started to plateau. There are plenty of smartphones and tablets from 2012 that are still quite snappy and responsive. I personally use this tablet every day for casual Android games and 1080p MKV media watching. Since the tablet is running a near-stock AOSP version of Android, there’s hardly anything slowing it down. The display only has a 1280×800 pixel resolution but with what I use it for, it can hold its own.

If I had to fault it for one thing, it would be the internal storage. It doesn’t support TRIM(without root) so it can slow down over time. This, of course, depends on how much data you fill the storage with. You can actually download an application to manually optimize the internal storage but it requires root access. We will definitely talk later about how to root this tablet. Some people dislike the absence of a microSD slot. Since I stream my content from a Drobo, it has never bothered me. I do see the benefit of having one though.

Do you have any experience with the 2012 Nexus 7? We can see that it comes with a Travel Cover and it qualifies for free shipping too. This is a great tablet for around $150, which makes it even more tempting at $120. There’s even a high probability that it will receive Android L this Fall.
