How To Expand the Default Partition Without Reinstalling Windows?

How To Expand the Default Partition Without Reinstalling Windows

Suppose you bought a laptop of any brand having 500 GB(Gigabyte) Toshiba Hard drive consisting of 3 partitions C, D, E like this way:

  1. Local Disk C 60 GB containing a window of about (20-25) GB
  2. Local Disk D 220 GB
  3. Local Disk E 220 GB

You start using Laptop but it becomes slower with the year’s usage. Working did not remain same like as when you bought it. Now, It notifies you about Low Disk Space every time you update window’s features and makes your laptop slow to process and sometimes crashing happens. This is the problem many end users and customers are facing these days including me.

This is so irritating and is a totally unfavorable situation which a end user never expects. The whole credit goes to inappropriate disk partitioning which is done by the re-seller. Disk D, E comes with a capacity of data of about 220 GB but disk C can contain data files of about maximum 60 GB. Because system disk C contains basic windows files, windows updates, drivers, software and application’s data files, so it should be of enough to contain all necessary files. But don’t you need to worry you are at the right platform to find the solution to this critical problem. The reassuring fact is that we can redistribute it again according to our needs with the help of some partition tools.

Choice 1. Windows Toolkit

This enables you to redistribute drive space to a certain degree with a few limitations. This process is very simple and can be done with a few mouse clicks.

let’s take above example, you have

1.Disk C which lacks capacity to store data

2.Disk D having large free space

Firstly, you have to move/shift data of Disk D into another safe disk or make its backup in any format for the purpose of free space and then Disk C will be expanded via using its space.

On the one hand we do not need to have any technical abilities for this task and this is an effortless process but on the other hand there are a few limitations to this procedure.

Procedure:

1) press (“Windows icon” + X)>it will show you a list then select Disk Management

2) You will see a new window containing details of all partitions of your drive

3) Right click on disk D to shrink its free volume or if it has not freed the space then shift/move it data

4) Now extend the Disk C by the right click>select extend>allocate free space to Disk C

there are many tools available to extend/resize/shrink disks sizes but we’ll discuss this one as an example

Choice 2. Using Ease US Partition Master Free

As you know we have some limitations in using windows toolkit like shifting or moving data from one disk to another or making backup type. We should use a little free part of Disk D and some of Disk E as needed instead of deleting or making only one Disk empty. So, we have to move forward to the latest tech market tools. We have a partition software Ease US Partition Master Free Edition: a free of charge and enjoying great popularity amongst Disk partition softwares. If your operating system is before or after the windows vista version it is applicable in both situations.

let’s consider the above example of merging /extending Disk C size

Procedure:

1) Choose Partition D to make it space free and if not enough then you can also apply the same procedure to Partition E

select disk D>click resize>resize it according to need> click OK >remaining space will become unallocated

2) Choose Partition C to extend in a free way

select Disk C > right click>select resize or merge if an option appears> click OK

3) click “Execute Operation Button ” at the top and then click Apply and it is done
