How to Show the Battery Percentage on the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge

If you like to keep your eye on exactly how much battery is left on the Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge, then you can show the battery percentage in the status bar.

One of my favorite features that is missing from Google’s AOSP Nexus version of Android is the ability to see the battery percentage right in the status bar. Now, this was become possible in Marshmallow with a hidden menu, but in my opinion it isn’t implemented as well as it could be. Samsung’s implementation is better, again in my opinion, but it still isn’t the way I really enjoy it.

I’ve become accustomed to the way most custom ROMs let you choose a circle battery indicator and then give you the option to display the Galaxy S7 battery percentage inside the circle.

Now, this is all subjective and just because I like it that way doesn’t mean everyone else likes it the best. A lot of people enjoy Samsung’s implementation and I have to say that I feel it is better than the way Google has it setup. I just want to be able to glance at the status bar and know exactly how much battery is left. With Google’s method, it just becomes hard to read when the battery hits a certain level. I understand that this isn’t a fully fledged feature for AOSP Android and that’s why it’s hidden within a secret menu. I appreciate that Google added the option though because the more customization options the better.

Samsung does things a differently than either of the two methods mentioned above and that’s what today’s tutorial is all about.

Galaxy S7 Show Battery Percentage

  1. Launch the Settings Application
  2. Scroll Down and Tap on the ‘Battery’ Option
  3. Then Tap the ‘Show Battery Percentage’ Option to Enable it

Explanation

This is very easy to do and the option is in a section of the settings that makes sense. This feature deals with the battery so Samsung has included it within the Battery section of the Settings application. Once there, all you have to do is tap the Show Battery Percentage option and you should see the toggle switch on. Once the feature is toggled on, you’ll immediately see the battery percentage appear to the left of the battery icon within the Status Bar. Some will feel that enabling this feature starts to make the Status Bar cluttered and I agree to a certain extent.

Google’s AOSP implementation doesn’t clutter the Status Bar, but again, it can be hard to read depending on what level the battery is at. Most custom ROMs will give you the option to display the battery icon and the battery percentage in multiple ways. So you can mix and match the ones you like best. This sense of cluttering up the Status Bar is exactly why I like the circle battery icon with the Galaxy S7 battery percentage inside it. I get all the information I want at a glance and there’s no clutter at all.

As mentioned though, this is all subjective and it will depend on which option you like best. I’m not aware of a way to enable the AOSP version of this feature on the Galaxy S7 because I’m not sure if the System UI Tuner is in TouchWiz. I’ve tried enabling it the way it is on Nexus devices and it just launches the Settings app. No hidden menu appears. It might be possible to access this menu, or enable this feature in other(more complex) ways, but as of right now I don’t know how that is done. If you are aware of how this can be done then I’d love to learn about it in the comments section below.
