How to Remove the Bixby Home Screen Page on the Galaxy S9

Samsung has made it quite easy to disable the dedicated Bixby button from launching Bixby Home, but the page will still be sitting there on your Home Screen. So we’re going to be following the detailed steps below to remove the Galaxy S9 Bixby Home page from the Homescreen.

You may be noticing a trend here with the number of tutorials I have been doing about Samsung’s virtual assistant, Bixby. It’s clear to see that the enthusiast community isn’t a fan of it and would rather use that button for something else (or just remove it entirely). So lately I have been talking about ways to disable the Galaxy S9 Bixby button so that it doesn’t bother you when you accidentally press it.

I did another guide that showed how to remap the Galaxy S9 Bixby button so that you could do something like launch Google Assistant when it’s pressed.

Even if you go through all of these tutorials to distance yourself from the virtual assistant, there are still ways that Samsung is able to remind you about the feature. For example, even if we use Samsung’s built-in feature to stop Bixby Home from opening when we press the Bixby button, long pressing the button still initiates the voice control action for it. Another way that Bixby is able to stay in your view is by keeping the Bixby Home page visible on the Home Screen of the Galaxy S9.

While I’m still looking into how to disable the long press gesture, today’s guide will walk you through how to remove the Bixby Home page from the Galaxy S9.

How to Hide the Galaxy S9 Bixby Home Screen

  1. Long press on an empty spot of the Home Screen
  2. Swipe all the way to the right to reveal the Bixby Home screen panel
  3. Tap the toggle sitting at the top right of the preview card for Bixby Home
  4. Then press the Home button to apply the change and go back to the Home Screen

Explanation

As you can see, there are so many ways that Samsung wants to make sure you’re aware of the Bixby virtual assistant and they’re doing their best to get you to use it. The Bixby Home screen page  can actually be quite useful if you like some of the features it offers. You can think of it similarly to how Google Home used to be where it can offer you some cards that you may or may not find useful at a given time. Like with most of the features that Samsung offers, you should definitely try it out and see if it helps you throughout the day.

For those of us who don’t want to see it, we can quickly and easily disable it from appear on the Home Screen of the Galaxy S9. I would have rather there have been an option to disable this from within the settings area of Bixby Home (just like there is with disabling the dedicated Bixby button), but that simply isn’t the case here. Instead, we need to deal with it like we used to do with the Flipboard news panel that Samsung used to embed in the far left Home Screen page of their devices.

Galaxy S9 Bixby Home Screen Option
Unlike the other Home Screen pages of the Galaxy S9, we’re unable to delete the Bixby Home page but we can disable it.

So to start, we just need to get to the Home Screen of the Galaxy S9 and it’s preferable to get to a Home Screen page that has at least one empty square on it. We want to do this because the next step requires us to long press on an empty area of the Home Screen so that it will bring up the settings for the Home Screen of the Galaxy S9. You’ll notice this is the right page when you see the current Home Screen page shrink in so that it can display three options at the bottom with customization options.

We’ll be ignoring those three options at the bottom for now because we want to focus on the panels themselves. Simply start swiping the Home Screen to the right so that we reveal the far left page which should be the Galaxy S9 Bixby Home panel. At the top right of the preview image for this page we’ll have a toggle that is enabled by default (since the Bixby Home panel is displayed by default) and all we need to do is tap the toggle to turn it off and then we can tap the Home button to get us back to the Home Screen.

With that done, you can swipe to the right a bunch to try and bring up the Galaxy S9 Bixby Home page from the Home Screen but you’ll notice that it isn’t there anymore.
