HTC 10: How to Boot into Fastboot Mode

Today I’m going to show you how to boot into the HTC 10 Fastboot mode, which is also referred to as the HTC 10 Bootloader Mode as well.

Fastboot Mode, aka Bootloader Mode, for Android is generally used for issuing ADB and Fastboot commands. On a Nexus device, this is where we go to unlock the bootloader, push custom recoveries, etc. There are a few things that we’ll be doing in the HTC 10 Fastboot Mode in future updates.

I’ll be going over those in more detail when the time arrives, but for now I just want to show you how to boot into it.

There might be a way to boot into the HTC 10 Fastboot Mode directly from the boot sequence (similarly to how we booted into Download Mode). I’m not aware of a method like this though. So if there’s something I’m missing, please be sure to let me know in the comments section below. Instead, I’m going to first direct you to boot into Download Mode and then navigate through the menu to get to Fastboot Mode.

HTC 10 Fastboot Mode

  1. Boot the HTC 10 into Download Mode
  2. Press the Volume Down button twice
  3. This should highlight the Reboot to Bootloader option
  4. With this option highlighted, simply press the Power button to select it

Explanation

So to start, we will need to go ahead and boot the HTC 10 into Download Mode. If you don’t remember how to do this, you can refer back to tutorial I wrote up last week (this is linked in the guide above). The process is simple though. You only need to hold the Power and Volume Down buttons while the HTC 10 is booting up and it will take you there. Once you are in Download Mode, you’ll want to navigate through the menus with the Volume Up, Volume Down and Power buttons.

So from here, you will need to press the Volume Down button two times until you highlight the Reboot to Bootloader option, As mentioned above, Bootloader Mode and Fastboot Mode are the same thing. Once you have this option highlighted, you’re going to need press the Power button to select it. You’ll see the screen go completely black, and then eventually it will go white once it takes you into the HTC 10 Fastboot Mode.

The menu here shows you a number of things that we can do. For example, from the HTC 10 Bootloader Mode, we can reboot back into this same mode. We can also boot back into Download Mode (which is where we just were). We can boot the HTC 10 into Recovery Mode and lastly, we have the ability to both Reboot or Power Down the HTC 10 directly from here.

Just like in Download Mode, you’ll want to press the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons to highlight an option, then then press the Power button to select it.
