If you’re having trouble with one specific application on the Nexus 6, then clearing the application cache and/or data can help to fix it and here is how.

When writing about Android, I see a lot of random bugs and glitches happen to users from all around the world. A lot of the time the trouble that people are having deal with one specific application that they use a lot or that is vital to them. Today’s tutorial will cover one of the many troubleshooting steps that you can do while trying to resolve those bugs and glitches.

This step can even be used to resolve connectivity issues that you might be having with Bluetooth as well since that is controlled by the ‘Bluetooth Share’ system application.

Random issues with Bluetooth, browsers and just about every other application can surface after you have applied an OTA update to your Nexus 6. These issues can also appear seemingly at random too because of things like corruption of the cache that the application uses. Either way, clearing the application cache and/or data is one of those things that you should try to do if you are having troubles with your Nexus 6.

  1. Launch the Settings Application
  2. Scroll Down and Tap on the Apps Section
  3. Swipe Over to the ‘All’ Column
  4. Locate and Tap on the Application You’re Having Trouble With
  5. Tap on the ‘Clear Cache’ Button
  6. Reboot the Nexus 6

Explanation

So there are the ways to clear either the application cache or the application data for the Nexus 6. All of this resides in the Apps section from within the Settings application. From there you have a few columns that help you sort through all of the installed application. I always recommend to just swipe over to the ‘All’ column and find it there since some things aren’t visible in the other columns.

For example, when a user is having trouble with Bluetooth in some way or another, I will suggest for them to go through this process and find the ‘Bluetooth Share’ application that is listed in the ‘All’ column of the Apps section. I will then suggest that they clear both the cache as well as the data(cache first, then data) before they reboot their Nexus 6. Once they reboot the Nexus 6 they will have to pair their device with Bluetooth accessories again and this usually resolves any issues that were caused by an update or corrupt data.

This tip can be used for any application that you are having trouble with. Remember though, if you press the delete data button then you might lose all of the personal data that was stored in that application. This can be a pain but getting an application working again is usually better than having an application that won’t launch or won’t work at all. This can resolve anything from force closes to unresponsive functions of the application. It’s not intended to be a be-all and end-all solution to everything but it does help a lot.
