Android 14 Can Switch Among Dual-SIM Networks For Better Connectivity

Android 14 Developer Preview 2 is Now Available to Eligible Phones

The Android 14 Developer Preview 1 has bought in a new feature for the phones with Dual-SIM functionality – where the system is now capable of switching networks for better connectivity.

This applies to both data and call connections, where the system will automatically detect the better network and re-route your operations through it. Well, we’re yet to learn how Android 14 determines the strength of a network connection and the consequences of this feature.

Automatic Switching of Mobile Networks

As noted by folks at 9to5Google, Google has added a new feature in the Android 14 Developer Preview 1 updatethat will let the system switch mobile networks automatically based on connection strength. This option was added in the SIM card section of updated phones as the “Switch mobile data automatically” – if you’re having two SIM cards enabled.

When toggled on, you’d let the device make choices for better internet connectivity. This is fairly helpful at places where there’s no connectivity and causes you to hassle yourself, switching between SIMs manually. Now, you’ll let the system do it for you automatically!

Well, the consequences of this feature are yet to be known – as there are areas where turning on the mobile data automatically would suck up talktime balance if there’s no relevant data pack. Though it’s an old practice, people in some areas are still tangled in this. Aside from this, it’s still a needed feature for those having two SIM cards and doesn’t mind connecting to calls or the internet from either of those.

If you’re interested to try this, well you need to update your device to the latest Android 14 update to check it. The Developer Preview 1 of Android 14 is now available for eligible devices Pixel 7 & 7 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 6 & 6 Pro, Pixel 5a 5G, Pixel 5, and Pixel 4a (5G), from the Settings section. If not, you can flash install it manually.
