Apple MacBook Air 2024

Apple has announced it’s latest MacBook Air models featuring it’s in-house M3 chipsets. The new laptops are available in two sizes, 13-inch and 15-inch, and are now open for pre-orders. They are set to start shipping on Friday, March 18, 2024.

These new MacBook Air laptops are basically the same 2022 models but now include the more powerful M3 chipsets previously reserved for the MacBook Pro and iMac lineups.

Both MacBook Air devices boast a liquid retina display with up to 500 nits of peak brightness and the ability to support up to two external displays when the laptop lid is closed. They also feature Wi-Fi 6E support, providing access to 6GHz bands for better download speeds. Additionally, MagSafe charging and two Thunderbolt ports are included.

The standout feature of these laptops is the M3 chipset, offering a 17 percent improvement for single-core tasks and a 21 percent improvement in multi-core tasks compared to the M2 chipset. GPU performance is also enhanced, with a 15 percent improvement over it’s predecessor. It is worth noting that these new laptops come with the M3 chipset, not the M3 Pro or Max chipsets, which are Apple’s most powerful chipsets on the market.

In terms of memory and storage, these laptops can be configured with up to 24GB of RAM and up to 2TB of SSD storage. The base model comes with 8GB of RAM, with the option to upgrade to 16GB for an additional $200 or 24GB for an additional $400. Similarly, the base storage is 256GB, with options to increase to 512GB for $200, 1TB for $400 and 2TB for $800.

Equipped with the more powerful M3 chipsets, these laptops now feature a 16-core Neural Engine capable of running optimized AI models, alongside a built-in GPU that facilitates mesh shading and ray tracing. Additionally, they sport a 1080p front camera for FaceTime, three microphones, spatial audio and Dolby Atmos support.

Apple claims that these laptops can deliver up to 18 hours of battery life on a single charge. The base 13-inch model includes a 30W USB Type-C power adapter, while the higher-end variants offer either a 35W dual-port charger or a 70W adapter.
