Apple unveiled the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus at it’s Wanderlust event, introducing significant upgrades over their predecessors. Improvements have been made in the cameras, overall design, battery life, connectivity and performance. One notable change in these newly announced models is the introduction of a USB Type C port for charging and a dynamic island on the display, similar to the Pro models. Detailed specifications for these devices are provided below.
Specifications for iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus:
Both devices share nearly identical specifications with the only difference between them being the screen size and battery capacity. They are constructed with new materials featuring polished nano-crystalline particles and the iPhone 15 series boasts a Ceramic Shield to protect it’s screen. The iPhone 15 series offers multiple color options, including Pink, Green, Yellow, Blue and Black.
As previously anticipated and leaked online, the devices now feature a USB Type C port for charging, replacing the Lightning port that Apple has used on all it’s iPhones since 2012. This USB Type C port serves charging purposes, data transfer and the connection of wired earphones, as Apple is also introducing USB Type C earphones. This means that a single USB cable can now charge all Apple devices, including iPhones, MacBooks, iPads and the Air Pods Pro 2nd generation.
Like last year, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus came in a 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch screen sizes. However, the most significant display upgrade is the inclusion of the Dynamic Island, marking the end of the notch introduced in 2017 with the iPhone X. The devices now feature an OLED Super Retina XDR display with support for Dolby Vision. The display is notably brighter, with a peak HDR brightness of up to 1600 nits and a peak outdoor brightness of up to 2000 nits, nearly double that of their predecessors.
The most intriguing feature of these devices, particularly for non-Pro models, is the Dynamic Island, housing the front camera along with all the face unlock sensors.
Under the hood, Apple employs it’s A16 Bionic chip, initially introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro models last year. Despite being a year old, the chip continues to deliver exceptional performance, representing a significant upgrade over it’s predecessor.
Regarding the cameras, the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus still feature a dual-camera system with a design similar to previous year. However, there is an improvement of the rear camera system, which now comprises a 48-megapixel primary sensor paired with a 12-megapixel telephoto lens. This is the same 48-megapixel sensor introduced last year with the Pro models.
Both devices are equipped with a new ultra-wideband chip, akin to the one found in the Apple Watch Series 9. This chip simplifies the process of locating friends and family for iPhone users and Apple’s SOS service now extends to collaborate with AAA roadside service.
Pricing for these devices remains consistent, with the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus priced at $799 and $899, respectively, for the 128GB storage variant, as it was last year.
