Asus Confirms its Steam Deck Rival ‘ROG Ally’ to be Real

Asus confirmed it’s ROG Ally to be real – after announcing it on the eve of World Fools Day, April 1st.

The new Steam Deck rival is more competitive with high-end hardware, better display and other features. Asus says it’s handheld device can be connected to an external RTX 4090 GPU for even better performance. The company is yet to determine the origin and availability of this device.

Asus’s Handheld Gaming Device

As the gaming industry continues to boom, one of the major PC OEMs is stepping into this field – Asus, lately. The company announced a new handheld gaming device similar to Steam Deck – on April 1st, making people think it’s fooling around.

But no, the company says now! On several of it’s social media accounts, Asus confirmed that it’s ROG Ally is real – marking it’s entrance into a new hardware line-up. And it’s worth it, as the industry is hitting new heights every year. The handheld gaming device is popularized by Nintendo – which is still the market leader – and is now slowly being grabbed up by Steam Deck.

And as Asus comes with it’s ROG Ally, the competition in this space is going to heat up for the public. Though the company is yet to reveal it’s pricing and availability, we assume it to be around that of Steam Deck’s $399 tag. Well, people would try buying ROG Ally even if it’s pricier than Steam Deck, considering it’s specs.

Asus noted the ROG Ally to come with AMD Zen 4-based APU – offering double the performance of Steam Deck’s AMD Zen 2 APU processor. Both the devices will run on Windows OS – which is the new ROG Ally that is touted to come with Windows 11 pre-installed!

Further, the Asus device would have a 7″ 1080p display with a 120Hz refresh rate – in contrast to Steam Deck’s 720p 60Hz display. Other notable features include the Ally having a microSD card slot, built-in speakers and a fingerprint scanner. Asus says that Ally can even be connected to an external RTX 4090 GPU for added performance.
