Elon Musk has announced that video and audio calls will soon be available on X(formerly Twitter). X or Twitter, whatever you call it, has been in the news since it’s takeover by the world’s richest man last October. Last month, the platform was rebranded to X, surprising many hardcore users.

Since then, Elon Musk announced that many new features are coming to the microblogging site. Introducing Audio and video calls to the platform means that Elon Musk plans to compete with the social media apps owned by Meta. Musk also announced his plan to make X an “everything app” just like the WeChat app.

There are very few details shared by Musk about the upcoming communication feature on X. First of all, the feature will be available for all users globally and users can use this feature on Android, iOS, Mac, web and Windows meaning it will be available for all the commonly used operating system. Secondly, users will not need a phone number to make a call. This means that for this feature users just need a username of the person they want to make a call. This is just more secure, especially in scenarios where one person does not want to share their phone number with another person.

Additionally, Musk stated that with this feature they will make X the effective global address book and it makes sense to some extent, and you can reach anyone globally using their username on the platform.

This was all that Elon Musk shared about the upcoming communication feature on the platform. Musk shared the news of the upcoming feature via his X handle. He did not mention when the rollout of these new feature will arrive but it is definitely an interesting feature and will surely attract a lot more users.

With the rebranding of Twitter to X, Musk announced that he would make the platform more than what it is today. He also announced that he would change the way news link appears on the platform.

Recently, X also acquired a currency transmitter license indicating that the app might allow users to make payments in crypto or fiat currency soon. This is just the beginning and there will be more features coming to the platform.
