Fitbit Starts Warning Users to Sign-in With Google Account

Set Up Fitbit Charge 5

Fitbit started phasing out it’s native login method for the sake of Google accounts, as it started warning users on the login page.

Though this change was previously announced, it’s set to happen completely by 2025. Until then, all the current and old Fitbit users can use their native Fitbit accounts to log in, while new users are forced to sign-up with a Google account only.

A New Way to Sign in to Your Fitbit

Though Google acquired Fitbit in 2019, it didn’t touch it’s assets until this year – when it started pasting the “Fitbit by Google” tags all over. Slowly, the acquirer is tuning Fitbit’s latest smartwatches to use it’s Wear OS and completely immerse them in it’s ecosystem.

Well, the biggest change in this pursuit is disabling the Fitbit accounts and replacing them with Google ones! As announced in a new support page in September this year, Fitbit will gradually phase out it’s native login account for that of Google accounts.

While it’s set to be done by 2025 completely, the transition has already started. As noted by 9to5Google, Fitbit started warning it’s users logging into native accounts – to use Google accounts for good. Since the company transports all their data, it won’t be a trouble for the users.

Well, all the current and past users can continue using their Fitbit accounts to access their data, while the new users are forced to use only the Google sign-in. Fitbit said it’ll share more information on this in the near future while also promising that it won’t share any of the collected data with Google to be used in targeted ads.
