Google Wallet Can Now Show Your Transit Spending History

Google is enhancing it’s Wallet app to let global commuters store their transit cards easily and track their spending in one place.

The latest update supports storing travel passes from transit agencies in France, Germany, and Italy while showing their spending history and saving analysis.

Google Wallet already packs support for storing and viewing various digital cards but it’s the partnerships with all these digital card lenders that make it a useful offering. The app already supports storing the digital IDs of several US states and now has expanded this functionality to more transit passes.

As announced on Thursday, Google Wallet now let transit riders in Madrid buy and store their passes directly on the app. This aside, the service also enabled people in Seattle and the Puget Sound Region to integrate their ORCA transit cards.

Further, people can now buy tickets from agencies like SNCF in France, Hamburg HVV in Germany and Italo in Italy and save them directly to Google Wallet for easier commuting. Another addition is the showing of transit history and savings analysis.

Commuters in London, New York and Sydney have the convenience of using any branded cards for paying to transit. Though helpful, it sometimes makes the spending history and analysis messy to understand. Thus, Google Wallet has been updated to show their transit expenditures, including the users’ ride history and the savings accrued versus time-based fare caps.

This section will also be helpful for transit agencies to keep their customers informed about potential service alterations or promotional fares. This support is initially available with Brighton and Hove Buses in the UK and then to other transit systems in more regions.

Google is gradually making it’s native payment app – Google Pay, available in more regions while also partnering with hundreds of ticketing agencies to make users’ transit easy. More recently, it’s testing support for buying metro tickets in India via Google Maps.
