GoTo Confirms a Data Breach Affecting its Developer Environment

GoTo, a fairly known remote access and collaboration tool, has just confirmed a data breach incident on it’s platform.

In an email notification to it’s customers, GoTo said they had hired a security firm to investigate the incident further whilst also informing law enforcement about it. While there’s no reference to customer data being affected, GoTo has anyway enhanced it’s security measures after this incident.

GoTo Data Breach

GoTo (formerly known as LogMeIn) is a popular remote access and collaboration suite used by individuals and businesses for their respective works. Being private since it’s inception, GoTo has amassed millions of users and even acquired the popular password manager LastPass in 2021.

All these make the company an interesting target for hackers, who can get their hands on remote communications if exploited. Well, this may have happened this week, as the company disclosed a security breach incident late Wednesday.

In an email notification sent to it’s customers, GoTo said that unknown threat actors had accessed their development environment and third-party cloud storage service – which it shares with LastPass, thus breaching it’s network too.

Well, they’re good enough to contain the breach quickly after detecting unusual activity in their development environment. While it didn’t explain how attackers accessed the cloud storage in the first place, LastPass detailed it as the stolen credentials from a previous breach.

Anyhow, GoTo said none of their products and services are affected by this, and they have hired a security firm named Mandiant to investigate the incident. And as a well-needed practice, they deployed “enhanced security measures and monitoring capabilities” after the attack.
