Grammarly Ends Text Editing Services on Third-Party Apps

Grammarly has just dumped support for it’s Text Editor SDK on third-party applications, forcing users to try it’s app to avail of the text editing services.

Grammarly asked the developers of third-party apps – who have it’s text editor integration to remove it by January 10th, 2024, as it will dump support after that. Well, the company said it won’t even pass any updates until then and will assist developers in the removal process.

Grammarly Text Editor SDK

To users who often work on text-based projects, Grammarly is a lifeline. When enabled, the tool can automatically surface grammatical and spelling errors in your text and suggest proper replacements. In 2021, the OEM got so kind as to let third-party developers use it’s text editor’s capabilities in their respective apps – for free, empowering hundreds of text apps with Grammarly’s sauce.

As these apps grew well with free Grammarly support, the latter decided to end support for this integration early next year. In a blog post shared yesterday, Grammarly said it’s dumping support for it’s Text Editor SDK for third-party apps – forcing all those users to approach it’s native app for editing support.

Also, the company has asked the developers to remove this integration from their apps – as it ends support on January 10th, 2024. After which, apps running the Grammarly text editor won’t work. Ending this support, Grammarly wants to focus more on it’s core product, probably improving it by adding an AI touch.

The company stated earlier that it is working on adding AI capabilities to it’s suite, probably to stand relevant in the ongoing AI race. Talking about this, Grammarly’s senior manager for platform partners, Drew Endick, said;

“Deprecating the Text Editor SDK allows us to focus on achieving this vision and meeting increased demand we’re seeing from enterprises by dedicating our resources to addressing the challenges they face.”
