Previously, we wrote an article on unlocking the bootloader of Samsung Galaxy A series smartphones. Now, we will continue with the Samsung Galaxy A series and provide a guide on gaining root access to these devices. This guide applies to all devices in the Samsung Galaxy A series.
Prerequisites
Before you proceed, a few prerequisites need to be set up. The main requirement is to have the bootloader unlocked, and you also need to install Magisk on your phone. Remember to back up your important data before unlocking the bootloader, as the process will erase all data on your device.
Additionally, it would help if you had Odin installed on your PC and a downloaded copy of the firmware that matches the version currently running on your device. Download the firmware file to your PC or laptop for extraction. Once the bootloader is unlocked, follow these steps:
How to Root Samsung Galaxy A series devices with Magisk:
Step 1: Preparing the Firmware File
Copy the file starting with “AP” from the extracted firmware file to your device’s internal storage. This file will be modified through Magisk.
Step 2: Using Magisk Manager
Open the Magisk Manager app you downloaded and installed on your device. Tap on the “Install” button in the top Magisk section. Choose “Select and Patch a file“, browse and select the AP file you just copied to your device’s internal storage.
Step 3: Patching the File
After selecting the AP file, tap the “Let’s Go” button. Magisk will patch the file and provide you with a new file named “Magisk_patched”. This new file should be within the same folder where you loaded the firmware file from starting with “AP”.
Step 4: Transferring the Patched File
Copy the “Magisk_patched” file from your device to the same folder on your PC or laptop where you extracted the other firmware files.
Step 5: Booting into Download Mode
When the copying process is complete, boot your device into download mode and connect it to your PC using a USB cable.
Step 6: Using Odin
Open Odin on your PC while your device is in download mode and connected to the PC. Odin should detect your device, indicated by a line on the right side of the program’s log with the “added” message.
In Odin, load the firmware files one by one. Click the BL button and select the firmware file starting with “BL” from the extracted files. Then click the CP button and select the file starting with “CP”. Similarly, click the CSC button and select the file starting with “CSC”. Finally, click on the AP button and select the “Magisk_patched” file, which is the AP file patched using Magisk.
Step 7: Initiating the Flashing Process
Once you have loaded all the files in Odin, click the start button at the bottom to initiate the process. The process will take some time, so please be patient. When completed, you will see a green “Pass” message at the top and your device will restart automatically.
Step 8: Device Setting up
Set up your device as you usually would.
Step 9: Reinstalling Magisk Manager
After setting up your device:
- Download the Magisk Manager app again from the APK.
- Open the app, and on the first launch, it will require additional setup, which is normal.
- Tap the “OK” button, and your device will reboot on it’s own after five seconds.
This is a normal part of the root process.
