LG unveiled it’s first EV charger manufacturing plant in the US, set up in Fort Worth, Texas, with a capacity of offering more than 10,000 chargers per year.

This is also the company’s first EV charger station outside it’s home in South Korea, and it will start assembling chargers with 175KW capacity initially and 350KW later this year. LG said Texas offers a range of strategic and logistics benefits for it’s facility, compelling it to set up a plant in that area.

LG’s First EV Charging Facility

Aiming to capture the growing US EV charging market, LG opened it’s first EV charger manufacturing plant in the US in Fort Worth, Texas. Making it the first-ever setup outside South Korea, LG said the facility, spanning 59,202 square feet, can produce more than 10,000 chargers annually.

The company is already manufacturing the 11-kilowatt EV chargers in Texas and will start assembling the commercial chargers of 175KW capacity in the first half of this year and 350KW later this year. Speaking about this, LG’s Business Solution Company president, Jand Ik-hwan, said,

“By establishing our EV charger production factory in Texas, we will be able to actively respond to the rapidly growing demand for EV infrastructure in the U.S.”

LG said the reason they chose Texas for their manufacturing setup is due to strategic reasons. The state offers the benefits of using existing facilities, logistics and transportation networks. Notable facilities of many automobile OEMs, like GM, Tesla, Toyota, etc, are located in Texas.

LG has long been searching for new business opportunities to expand it’s revenue and gradually entered EV charging and digital healthcare, hoping to reach $79 billion in sales by 2030.

And with the current US government aiming to build at least 500,000 public chargers by 2030 – up from 165,000 public EV charging ports currently – LG has a good scope of earning big.
