LinkedIn announced a new verification program for users in the US – where they can verify their profiles with a government-issued ID card and a phone number.
This verification is free and processed by CLEAR software, says LinkedIn. Further, the job portal platform is even letting users verify their organization associated with a verification code sent to their company email and working with Microsoft Entra Verified ID to issue digital workplace IDs.

In a world where social media companies are selling verified badges for a price, LinkedIn is doing the opposite for the community’s good. The job portal platform on Thursday announced a new account verification program in the US – where users can get their accounts authenticated by a government ID.
Processed by CLEAR software, the program includes submitting a local government-issued ID and a phone number for verification – and having a verified status added to your profile right beneath the Connect and Message buttons.
“Through all these new, free features, we’re helping give you the confidence that who you’re connecting with and the content you come across is trusted and authentic.”
Further, the platform is letting users authenticate their association with a certain organization through an email verification process – where an OTP is sent to their company-provided email ID. LinkedIn says it already supports more than 4,000 companies for this process, with more adding up over time.
Also, the platform has partnered with Microsoft to use it’s Entra Verified ID platform for issuing digital workplace IDs. This is available for free for eligible users, and will be rolling out from the end of this month.
Unlike Meta or Twitter, LinkedIn believes the verification should be available for everyone, thus making it free. Meta and Twitter, on the other hand, have been charging $12 and $8 per month, respectively. Well, besides just a verified badge, these subscriptions come with a host of additional features to seem more premium.
