Meta and LG Reportedly Making a High-End Quest Headset

Meta has reportedly partnered with LG to make a new high-end Quest headset that competes directly with Apple’s recently launched Vision Pro.

Despite finding meagre success with Quest business and unclear about the industry’s future, Meta invests more in it’s MR headsets and plans to rival Apple anyway. The purported headset from Meta and LG is expected to come in 2025 for about $2,000.

An MR Headset From Meta and LG

Though the Quest headsets aren’t a hit, Meta has several plans for this business. Moved by Apple Vision Pro’s hype, Meta is reportedly working with LG to make a high-end Quest headset for the future.

As noted by UploadVR, the partnership initially involved only the LG Display for supplying Micro OLED displays to upcoming Quest headsets. But this was later expanded to include more LG wings, like LG Electronics for assembling the new headset, LG Energy and LG Innotek for supplying batteries and other components.

While Apple is focused on providing a premium experience with it’s Vision Pro, Meta is aiming to serve both the premium and entry-level segments. The high-end Quest headset from the Meta-LG partnership is expected to come in 2025 with a price tag of around $2,000.

In contrast, Meta’s Quest headsets are priced at sub-$500, while the Pro variant costs $1,500, still half of what Apple is selling it’s Vision Pro for. Well, Apple is using several premium components to suffice this offering, so Meta could do the same to compete with Apple’s Vision Pro. However, the future of both devices is unknown, for now!

Though it’s exciting to see tech companies innovating, demand for such MR headsets is largely unwanted by the community. Analysts believe Apple won’t sell more than 400,000 Vision Pro units by 2024, while the revenue from Meta’s “Reality Labs XR” division has declined.
