Meta is working on adding Reels playback support to it’s Quest headsets, as noted by the company’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, in a broadcast channel.

The GIF video he shared shows how the Reels can be watched and scrolled, similar to how we consume them on our phones. Well, this feature is still in the testing stage and there are no details on when this can go live for every Quest user.

While the tech community is still hanging on Apple Vision Pro’s hype, Meta is working to better it’s Quest headsets with new features. The latest in this pursuit is the testing of Instagram Reels on Quest headsets, as announced by the company’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, today.

Shared images show the Reels being played on a window that appears against your virtual background, slightly similar to how we see them on the phone. Details on how Quest headsets support this playback is still unknown – whether it’s playing through the Instagram app on Quest headsets or casting the Reels from our connected phones.

Anyway, it’s creating a Quest ecosystem with all the existing apps, providing Meta a new way of cashing in on it’s users. The company’s Quest headsets already have plenty of games for entertainment and adding Reels on top of them will only make users stick to them all the time.

Though Apple’s Vision Pro has a similar scope for watching movies, it’s priced at $3,499 – something that an average user cannot afford. Meta’s latest Quest 3, on the other hand, costs just $499 with all the latest hardware and some games included.
