Meta’s Threads Unveils Post Editing and Voice Notes for Users

Threads app

Meta’s Threads is introducing two new features that allow users to edit their posts and post voice notes on the platform. This editing post option and the ability to post voice notes enhances the user experience on the platform. While both these features are already available on X(formerly known as Twitter), Meta has incorporated them into Threads after a considerable delay.

Threads, a text-based application from Meta designed to compete with X, has rapidly introduced numerous features since it’s launch a few months ago. Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, announced these new features through a post on the Threads app. It is worth noting that Threads will offer these features for free, while X requires users to subscribe to a premium plan to access the edit post option. The process for editing posts is the same on both platforms: posts can be edited within a five-minute window after posting, but editing is disabled after this period.

Threads

Edited posts on Threads will display a small icon next to the timestamp, indicating that the author has made edits. However, Threads does not show the edit history or the number of revisions a post has undergone, unlike X, which offers this feature. The edit post feature will soon become available to all users globally on all platforms, although it is not available to me when writing this article.

Another feature announced by Mark Zuckerberg is the voice post. This feature is already present on X but is restricted to paid users. On the other hand, Threads allows users to post voice notes for free if this feature is available. To utilize this feature, users can tap the microphone icon while composing a post to begin recording a voice note. Once finished, they can tap the red icon to stop recording and then tap the post icon to share the voice note.

Users have the option to preview their recorded voice post before publishing it. This allows them to correct errors and rerecord a more accurate version before posting. Additionally, this feature includes a caption option, where the text highlights as the app plays the recorded post. This feature provides clarity and allows users to verify the context of their message before posting it.

Meta has been consistently adding new features to Threads since it’s launch in July of this year, with many more features currently in development and set to be rolled out soon.

However, Threads has yet to pose a significant threat to X (formerly Twitter), as many had anticipated when the app launched and quickly gained 100 million users in just five days. Since then, Threads has seen a decline in it’s user base, while X continues to attract more users despite criticism regarding new updates and restrictions.
