How to Install Xposed Modules on the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T

Today, I want to show you how to download, install, activate & delete Xposed Modules on the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T by using the GravityBox as an example.

Last week I showed you how to install the ever popular Xposed Framework on the OnePlus 3. Xposed Framework can be difficult to install as it requires multiple steps and unless you’ve done it in the past, it can be easy to get confused during the process. The same can be said about installing an Xposed Module on the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T as well.

The process isn’t exactly straight forward and if you haven’t ever done it in the past then it can be confusing for some to figure out how.

So today I’m going to walk you through this process by installing one of, if not the, most popular Xposed Modules ever. GravityBox. GravityBox is an all-in-one type of Xposed Module that comes with a hundreds of tiny features that are all packed into the same Xposed Module. I don’t have a list of all the features that you come with GravityBox, but if you check out the video download below then I will show you some of the features included once I have gone through the install process.

Requirements

To install an Xposed Module on the OnePlus 3 or OnePlus 3T, you will need to have Xposed Framework installed on your OnePlus 3 (naturally). To do that, you will need to have the bootloader of the OnePlus 3 unlocked. You need to unlock the bootloader so that you can install TWRP on the OnePlus 3 so that Xposed Framework can be installed. You will also need to root the OnePlus 3 so that Xposed Framework can do its job too. Lastly, I recommend that you create a Nandroid backup of the OnePlus 3 right before you download/install/activate any Xposed Module.

Explanation

As mentioned, I want this to just be a general how to install any Xposed Module on the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T tutorial, but I am also using it to show off a really popular module for those who are unaware about it. The Xposed Module in question is GravityBox, and it’s a module that can give you almost all of the features you see used in just about every custom ROM that is made by the community. I am using it for the Expanded Desktop feature so I can hide the status bar and prevent the clock and the icons from burning into the AMOLED display.

So to start, we’ll first need to launch the Xposed Framework application and then tap on the Download option at the main menu. This will start to list some of the Xposed Modules that you can install, but if you look at the top you can tap on a magnifying glass to search for specific modules. In this example I am searching for GravityBox, but you can search for anything here and see if it pulls something up. Once you find an Xposed Module you want to install on the Oneplus 3, go ahead and tap on it from this list.

You’ll be taken to the Description tab for the module and this is where you can read up on it (in case you’re unaware of what it does). When you’re ready to download and install it, simply swipe over to the Versions tab and then tap on the Download button for the latest version (or the version you want to install). This will download the Xposed Module and then you should see an app install screen appear. Simply tap on the Install button at the bottom right and it will install the Xposed Module for you.

OnePlus 3 Install Xposed Activate
Putting a check in the box activates the Xposed Module.

Once the module has been installed, go ahead and tap on the Done button at the bottom left (there’s no reason to open an Xposed Module now because it hasn’t been activated). Then head back to the Xposed Framework main menu so that you can activate it. Tap on the Modules option at the main menu and then locate the Xposed Module you want to activate. This page will list all of your installed modules and you’ll see a check box to the right of each one. Tapping on an empty check box will put a check it in and that means the module is activated.

This doesn’t mean it’s fully installed though. You’ll then need to reboot the OnePlus 3 and then, finally, the Xposed Module will be installed, activated and working. In this example, with GravityBox, there’s a companion app. So after the OnePlus 3 has been rebooted, you’ll then find the GravityBox application in the App Drawer. Launching it will give you a list of all the features that you can enable. As noted in the companion app, some features will not be active (even after you enable them), until you reboot the OnePlus 3 again.
