Reddit is Deleting Old Chats, Here’s How to Save Yours

How To Delete Reddit History

Amidst the API pricing criticism, Reddit has been hit with yet another controversy – about it’s new chat architecture that’s swallowing the old chats.

Users are frustrated as they cannot find their old Reddit chats as of recently because of a new chat system coming soon. Though Reddit made notes of this change, it didn’t properly inform the community – triggering frustration.

Saving Your Reddit Chats

Since last month, Reddit has been in hot waters for a number of reasons. Firstly, the company faced a massive backlash over it’s new API pricing, as it kills most of the third-party apps relying on Reddit and more recently, Reddit announced discontinuing it’s coins-based reward system, that’s used to appreciate valuable posts.

Though Reddit is working on a new system that’s simpler and more direct, it’s far from reality and now, the platform is criticised for not properly informing users of the changes to it’s new messaging system – where it’s archiving the users’ old chats!

Many have noticed the change this week, triggering frustration. Though Reddit mentioned this change in it’s internal records, users are furious that the platform didn’t communicate to them appropriately – maybe via an email or an app notification. Well, Reddit reasoned this with a new chat architecture incoming, which needs the old chats to be pulled down for a “smooth and quick transition“.

So if you’re a Reddit user who can’t find your old chats anymore, Mashable says you can still recover them by requesting account data from Reddit. The archive dump you receive should include the personal conversations before 2023.
