Samsung Galaxy AI Will Not be Coming to Galaxy S22 Series

Samsung’s Galaxy AI is reportedly not coming to the Galaxy S22 Series, even though it has the required hardware and software.

Speaking to TechRadar, Samsung’s Head of Experience said they wanted to ensure the mobile hardware supports the AI experiences, so they’re just sticking with the Galaxy S24 Series and last year’s models at launch.

Galaxy AI Eligible Devices

One of the exciting things about the recently unveiled Galaxy S24 Series is it’s Galaxy AI, a magic suite of features that lets users perform a range of actions seamlessly. And since it’s termed as the USP of the Galaxy S24 Series, Samsung is expected to bring it to other devices gradually.

But to our surprise, Samsung omitted the Galaxy S22 Series from the list of eligible devices for Galaxy AI and there’s no proper reason shared. Talking to TechRadar, Samsung’s Head of Customer Experience, Patrick Chomet said,

“We want to ensure that, over time, our AI experiences can be supported by [mobile] performance, which leads to CPU and GPU capability. So for now, we are learning; we are going step-by-step.

We know that Galaxy AI works well on the Galaxy S24 series and we know it will work well on [the Galaxy S23 series]. But we don’t know what the intensity of AI usage will be for the average customer, and [therefore how that] intensity will impact on-device resources and cloud resources.”

And then, he dictates the devices eligible for Galaxy AI, which includes the Galaxy S24 series, S23 series, Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Tab S9 series, Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5. As we understand, it’s all about 2023 or later devices, to let Galaxy AI leverage the newer hardware. But again, Galaxy S22 Series runs on the same chip as the S23 FE, too, making it an illogical reason to avoid it.

When the same was pointed out, Chomet reportedly said, “For now, we’re limiting the Galaxy AI to last-gen devices”. Though intriguing, we hope to see the Galaxy AI suite in the S22 Series soon, maybe a few months after the initial launch.
