Samsung Galaxy S24 Series Launched with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC

After months of rumors and leaks, Samsung finally took the wrap off it’s much-awaited Samsung Galaxy S24 series at the Galaxy unpacked event held on 17th January 2024. Like previous years, the Galaxy S series also comes with three devices this year. There is a standard Galaxy S24, the Galaxy S24+, and the Galaxy S24 ultra. As the name suggests, the S24 Ultra comes with top-of-the-line specifications with all the bells and whistles that anyone can expect from a top-tier flagship device and it comes with a premium cost.

This year, Samsung has mainly focused on AI features and these Samsung Galaxy S24 devices have many built-in AI features. Some AI features on these devices are Note Assist, Live Translate and Circle to Search. Read on to find out more about the detailed specifications of these devices.

Samsung Galaxy S24 series specifications:

These devices’ design and looks haven’t changed much from their predecessors, as most changes are under the hood. The S24 and the S24+ have aluminum armor frames, while the S24+ comes with a titanium frame. All three devices have IP68 water and dust-resistant support, just like their predecessor. Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra specifications:

The S24 Ultra is the premium smartphone among the three, and it comes with top-of-the-line specifications and all the bells and whistles. The device features a 6.8-inch edge QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2x display panel. It is an adaptive display and supports a fast 120Hz refresh rate. The display refresh rates adjust automatically from 1Hz to 120Hz depending on the content of the display to preserve battery life.

This display has features like Vision Booster to improve outdoor visibility and it is one of the brightest displays on the market, with 2600 nits of peak brightness under direct sunlight. There is a Corning Gorilla Armor protection on the display and an optical under-display fingerprint scanner.

Under the hood is the customized Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC for Galaxy manufactured on a 4nm fabrication with 12GB of LPDDR5x RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.0 internal storage. This chipset is a customized chipset made by Qualcomm in collaboration with Samsung for the Galaxy S24 series only. It is a slightly tweaked version of the regular Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. The chipset is also paired with Adreno 750 GPU for all the graphics-intensive tasks. It runs on One UI 6.1 on top of Android 14 out of the box.

Samsung has also improved the cameras on this year’s S series devices. The S24 Ultra has a quad camera setup on the rear side featuring a 200 MP wide sensor with f/1.8 aperture, field of view and optical image stabilization. There is also a 12 MP ultra-wide lens with f/2.2 aperture and 120 field of view, a 50 MP telephoto lens with optical image stabilization, f/3.4 aperture, and 5x optical zoom, and a 10 MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, optical image stabilization, and f/2.4 aperture. A 12 MP selfie shooter with an f/2.2 aperture and an 80-degree field view is on the front.

The device packs a 5000 mAh battery cell with a 45W fast wired charging and a 15W fast wireless charging speed. Other specifications include 5G, Bluetooth 5.3, 4G, LTE, USB Type C, and WiFi 7.

Samsung Galaxy S24 and S24+ Specifications:

The S24 and S24+ are the trimmed version of the S24 Ultra. The standard S24 has a 6.2-inch full HD+ display, while the S24+ has a slightly bigger 6.7-inch full HD+ display. Both devices have a Dynamic AMOLED 2x display with a fast 120Hz refresh rate. Like it’s Ultra sibling, these devices also have an adaptive refresh rate between 1Hz and 120Hz.

Under the hood is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC for Galaxy in both of these devices in select regions. These devices come with Samsung’s in-house Exynos 2400 SoC for most regions. The standard S24 has 8GB of LPDDR5x RAM with up to 512GB of UFS 4.0 internal storage, while the S24+ comes with 12GB of LPDDR5x RAM with up to 512GB of UFS 4.0 internal storage. These devices also come with One UI 6.1 on top of Android 14 out of the box.

On the rear side, both devices have the same triple rear camera setup consisting of a 50 MP wide sensor with f/1.8 aperture, optical image stabilization and an 85-degree field of view. There is also a 12 MP ultra-wide sensor with f/2.2 aperture and 120-degree field of view and a 10 MP telephoto lens with optical image stabilization, 3x optical zoom and f/2.4 aperture. There is a 12 MP lens with f/2.2 aperture and an 80-degree field of view for selfies.

The Galaxy S24 has a 4000 mAh battery with 25W wired fast charging, 15W wireless charging and wireless PowerShare. In contrast, the S24+ has a bigger 4900 mAh battery with 45W fast wired charging, 15W wireless charging, and wireless PowerShare. Other specifications are the same as what comes with the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.

AI features that come built-in on these devices are Live translation and the Samsung keyboard can translate messages in 13 languages in real-time. There is also a note to assist in Samsung Notes that can generate AI summaries of notes taken and create templates based on different scenarios.
