The day has finally come as Samsung unveiled it’s latest device, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, at a Galaxy Unpacked event held in South Korea. There were numerous rumors surrounding the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, but Samsung has now put all those rumors to rest.

The device has many improvements over it’s predecessor, making it the best flip device currently available on the market, despite tough competition from other OEMs. Besides upgrading the internals, Samsung has also significantly improved the externals, particularly focusing on design, build quality and the hinge, a crucial component of folding devices.

One of the main concerns users have when purchasing a folding device is it’s durability. Samsung has addressed this concern by making the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 the most durable flip device currently on the market. The device features an Armor Aluminium frame, which adds to it’s robustness. Additionally, it boasts a new hinge mechanism known as the Flex Hinge, a waterdrop hinge that allows the device to fold completely flat, similar to other flip folding devices from Motorola and Oppo.

An important design change is the inclusion of a 3.4-inch cover display with a standard 60Hz refresh rate. This much-needed upgrade makes the cover display more usable compared to the previous generation. Users can now utilize full apps, including messaging, dialer, weather, calendar, media players and more.

When unfolded, the device sports a 6.7-inch OLED display with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. This display offers the best visual experience while scrolling through social media, watching videos, or playing games.

Under the hood, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is powered by the latest and greatest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy, designed specifically for Samsung Galaxy smartphones. This chipset is an overclocked version of the regular Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset found in other flagship devices this year. It comes paired with the Adreno 740 GPU, 8GB of LPDDR5x RAM and either 256GB or 512GB of UFS 4.0 internal storage. The device runs on One UI 5.1.1 on top of Android 13 out of the box.

In terms of cameras, there is a dual rear camera system just like it’s predecessor, situated just above the cover display. The rear camera system includes a primary 12MP ultrawide sensor with f/2.2 aperture and a 12MP wide-angle sensor with f/1.8 aperture, offering an 83-degree field of view and optical image stabilization support. For selfies, there is a 10MP camera with f/2.2 aperture housed in a center punch hole cut out at the main display.

The device is equipped with a 3700 mAh battery that supports 25W wired fast charging, wireless charging and Wireless Power Share support. The company claims that with 25W wired charging support, the device can be charged from zero to fifty percent in just 30 minutes.

Other specifications include a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, which doubles as a power button, a USB Type-C port, 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, GPS/A-GPS and NFC.
