Tesla Owners With iPhones Can Now Voice Command Certain Tasks

An update to the Tesla app has lately added support for Apple Shortcuts – allowing Tesla owners with iPhones to control certain functions of their cars.

This includes locking and unlocking the car, activating Defrost and Dog Mode, closing windows, setting temperature, volume etc. While these are helpful to an extent, the function needs the owners to speak them verbatim, so it’s hard to get them right every time.

Managing Tesla via Siri

Adding to the top of Tesla’s technology, EV owners can now command some of their car’s internal functions using voice commands via Siri. In the latest update to the Tesla app (4.24.0), the company added support for Apple Shortcuts – from which Tesla owners with iPhones can command some internal functions hands-free.

This support ditches the need for third-party apps like Tessie, which offer similar functionality for a price. Though it’s rewarding to Tesla owners, there’s a catch. Customers are required to speak the commands verbatim, or else they won’t work! Here is a list of supported commands as noted by the Not a Tesla app;

  • Bioweapon Defense Mode
  • Camp Mode
  • Defrost
  • Dog Mode
  • Precondition Vehicle
  • Set Seat Heater (seat position and heat level)
  • Set Temperature (choose climate temperature)
  • Vent Windows
  • Set Media Volume
  • Emissions Test
  • Close All Windows
  • Flash Lights
  • Honk Horn
  • Lock/Unlock
  • Open Frunk
  • Open/Close Charge Port
  • Open/Close Door (Model X)
  • Open/Close Rear Trunk
  • Sentry Mode
  • Set Charge Limit
  • Start/Stop Charging

If you can speak them as noted, the fun is all yours. Invoke the Apple’s digital assistant and say the name of your automation and see how they are performed. Though it’s a little clunkier than the actual Siri integration, it’s probably the best Tesla owners will get, at least for now.
