WhatsApp Adds Screen Sharing Support in Video Calls

WhatsApp is Working on a Chat-Level Authentication System

Taking a page out from the video conferencing apps book, WhatsApp is adding screen-sharing support to it’s platform – accessible from a video call.

This feature has been in development since two months ago, so it’s unbelievable that Meta brought it to WhatsApp already. Rolling out this addition gradually to Android, iOS and Windows platforms, WhatsApp says the screen sharing is end-to-end encrypted and allows landscape-mode video calls.

WhatsApp Screen Sharing

For a while, WhatsApp has been a chat-only platform for many around the world. But with the changing landscape, the instant messenger has decided to add other features to stay relevant in people’s lives. The latest in this pursuit is the screen sharing support, where users can now share their entire screen while on video calls.

This feature was first spotted in late May, so, surprisingly, Meta bought it quickly to stable users. This option appears as a share button in the bottom bar of a video call and is helpful in many ways. You can use it in online classes or to provide tech support to your family members; screen sharing is something that all video apps have embedded as a must on their platforms.

While sharing a screen on your WhatsApp, the entire screen will be shown to the participants, including sensitive information. So make sure you don’t share any private content while doing so. WhatsApp stress that screen sharing is end-to-end encrypted, similar to video calls and chats.

While you can share an app’s screen through this feature, the audio from any video will not be shared. Also, to make presentations feasible, WhatsApp is allowing landscape mode video calls. This layout is better suited for screen sharing whilst viewing slides or presentations.

Screen sharing on WhatsApp is rolling out to Android, iPhone and Windows gradually, so if you don’t see this feature already, continue waiting patiently.
