WhatsApp is Adding ‘Chat Filters’ Based on Their Nature

WhatsApp is reportedly working on chat filters in v2.23.14.17 to let users find different categories of chats easily and quickly.

As noted by WaBetaInfo, the said beta version has Chat Filters divided into All, Unread, Personal and Business. These are automatically categorised by WhatsApp and appear as tabs at the top. Although, these chat filters are currently available only for one-on-one chats, with group chats yet to be added.

Categorising Chats Automatically

WhatsApp is taking community criticism seriously, as the platform is working on adding new features more frequently than ever. In this pursuit, WaBetaInfo noted new Chat Filters in WhatsApp v.2.23.14.17, where the platform automatically categorises chats based on their nature.

This was depicted in the screenshot, where the categories like All, Unread, Personal and Business are made automatically by WhatsApp for easier access. Searching chats through this method will also save time for users. Well, this support is currently available only for direct chats, while group chats are yet to be included.

Also, this feature seems to be a server-side update from WhatsApp, as the beta version I’m running on(v2.23.14.18) doesn’t have this yet. That being said, WhatsApp can also dump this feature if deemed unnecessary. So you should take all these leaks from beta testing as a pinch of salt until they appear for everyone.

And if you can’t wait until then, WhatsApp already has a primary filter in the search section, where you can filter unread chats, GIFs, polls etc, by tapping on respective options.
