WhatsApp is Testing HD Video Sharing Support

Beware: Scammers Posing as WhatsApp Support Are Stealing Data

After testing support for sharing HD images, WhatsApp is testing the same for videos – as reported by some beta testers running WhatsApp for Android v2.23.14.10.

The option to send HD videos will only be available for the eligible ones – like those recorded by your device and already in HD resolution and will be shared with HD tags. Though sending in the best resolution, WhatsApp would still slightly compress the HD videos.

HD Video Sharing on WhatsApp

WhatsApp has long been criticised for the slow rollout of new features, as it’s rivals are always ahead of it in the race. Well, the platform is doing so much better lately, as it’s adding exciting features to be on par with it’s competitors.

In this pursuit, WhatsApp has recently started testing HD image-sharing support, letting users share HD images with slight compression – but in much better quality than the current standard settings. While it’s yet to make it’s way to the general public, the platform is reportedly testing the same for video, too, says WaBetaInfo.

As per some users running WhatsApp beta for Android v2.23.14, the platform has just added an HD video-sharing option. This option will be shown at the top whenever you share HD videos with others. When done, shared HD videos will bear the HD tag, letting the recipient identify them accordingly.

If not this, there’s always the standard option enabled by default, where WhatsApp compresses the videos, resulting in faster but low-quality content being shared. Even in HD, WhatsApp will slightly reduce the video resolution but keeps it in much better quality than the standard ones.

This is an essential feature, especially when phones can capture 8K recordings, resulting in GBs of video data. Well, WhatsApp has still capped the maximum size of video you can share at just 16MB, which should be upped soon as well.
