WhatsApp, on its latest Android beta app, is testing an ability to let businesses assign a blue verified badge to their channels, that aligns with the other Meta apps they have a profile with.

This verification badge increases the channel’s visibility and authenticity, making users trust the information. The blue verified badge is only available to businesses on WhatsApp and won’t be coming to non-business or personal accounts.

Blue Checkmark For Authenticity

To all the businesses and famous personalities on Meta platforms, Meta Verified allows them to stand out from the crowd – displaying their authenticity. While the cost of this subscription varies according to region, it provides similar benefits to all those who buy it – like a verified badge, premium support, increased visibility, etc.

While it has been available for Instagram and Facebook for a long time, it’s now coming to WhatsApp Channels, as noted by WaBetaInfo on the latest WhatsApp Android beta v2.24.1.18. Businesses that subscribe to Meta Verified can now assign a blue checkmark to their channels to prove their relation and authenticity.

It’s known that the platform is trying to replace the green verification badge with a blue checkmark to align with the other Meta apps. Businesses attaching the blue verified badge to their channels should tune the details to match their business info – like the name and profile picture.

This is to prevent impersonation and misuse of the verification system. Also, the option to add a blue verified badge to channels is only available to businesses and not to personal accounts.
