X is Working to Add Video Calls Support Soon

X’s new CEO Linda Yaccarino revealed that the platform will soon be getting support for video calls, with users not needing to share their phone numbers for this purpose.

This is in the pursuit of making X an everything app that includes not just text-based posts but also payments, large media, etc. Adding video calls will make the current meetings in Spaces better, which are limited to just the audio.

Twitter’s rebranding is taking new shapes quickly. The platform was once only meant for following trends and official communication from brands and government officials. But now, it’s more than a social platform. Elon Musk-led board is bringing new features almost every day and making the platform more dynamic than ever.

The latest in this pursuit is the addition of video calls – which the X’s new CEO Linda Yaccarino said would be coming soon. In an interview with CNBC’s Sara Eisen, Yaccarino said, “Soon you’ll be able to make video chat calls without giving your phone number to anyone on the platform”.

This announcement follows a slightly cryptic post by X designer Andrea Conway this week, who tweeted, “Just called someone on X”, without clarifying whether it was a voice or a video call. Well, we now have the answer based on Yaccarino’s revelation.

This feature aligns with X’s aim of becoming an everything app – which includes payments, full-fledged media sharing, creator earnings and even essential banking services, one day. The platform has recently started allowing it’s premium users to post long-form videos. Apple was an early adopter of this – by posting the first episode of the Silo series on X.
