Xiaomi Unveiled ‘SU7’ – its First EV With HyperOS

Xiaomi unveiled it’s most anticipated product of this year – an electric car named SU7, which is set to be on the road later next year.

Aiming to become one of the world’s top five automakers in the next 15-20 years, Xiaomi’s CEO promised that the new EV would “exceed your expectations“. While no technical specifications have been revealed, the car is touted to run HyperOS and to be integrated with smartphones and smart home gadgets.

Xiaomi’s First Electric Vehicle

Years after shaking the smartphone segment, Xiaomi is now set to shine in the EV space with the launch of it’s first electric car named SU7. Teasing it on Thursday, Xiaomi says the SU in branding stands for Speed Ultra.

The four-wheeler EV is said to come with Xiaomi’s HyperOS, which also powers the company’s latest smartphones. This aligns with Xiaomi’s ideas to link all these products to one OS – viz EVs, smartphones and smart home gadgets.

The marketing images of the Xiaomi’s SU7 show the car being a sedan, with a grey shade and having five-spoke alloy wheels paired with Michelin tyres. More details on the car’s technology are yet to be revealed but Xiaomi Chief Executive Lei Jun said it is the perfect Porsche and has more tech features than Tesla. Furthermore,

“By working hard over the next 15 to 20 years, we will become one of the world’s top 5 automakers, striving to lift China’s overall automobile industry.”

The car debuted when the world’s EV players were hit with slow demand and weak production capacity, pushing even the top EV player, Telsa, to slash prices.

Yet, Xiaomi is confident to set a mark, at least in the Chinese economy. The company is pledging $10 billion to automobile making over a decade and said that Xiaomi cars would be at the forefront of the industry.
