Apple is Reportedly Building its Own AI Server Chip

Apple is reportedly making its own AI server chip for future applications, based on TSMC’s 3nm process.

This comes from a reliable tipster from Weibo, who also quoted that the purported chip will go into mass production in H2 2025. This chip may be equipped in Apple’s data centers and aid the company’s upcoming cloud-based features.

Apple’s Custom AI Server Chip

Watching how rapidly the AI is tuning the existing technologies, Apple has reportedly decided to build its own AI products to stay relevant in the future. The company was rumoured to bring some AI features to its upcoming iOS 18, that may work with in the device.

While we wait to see what they are, a reliable tipster from Weibo notes that Apple is making its own AI server chip! The Weibo user, going by the name “Phone Chip Expert,” says the purported AI chip would go into mass production in the second half of 2025, based on TSMC’s 3nm node.

While it’s still a rumor, the tipster has a strong history of reliable leaks – from pointing out that the iPhone 7 would be water-resistant and the A16 Bionic chip being exclusive to the ‌iPhone 14‌ Pro models. He also claims to have 25 years of experience in the integrated circuit industry, including working on Intel’s Pentium processors.

Thus, we fairly weigh his tips to be true. Besides, Apple is the biggest client of TSMC, so priority usage of its 3nm node for its future applications is inevitable. And by designing their own server chips, Apple can reduce its reliance on third-party hardware providers, similar to ditching Intel.

Also, crafting custom server chips will let Apple tailor the hardware specifically to its software needs, potentially leading to more powerful technologies. With that hope, we wait to hear more statements corroborating this initial claim.
