Shazam on Wear OS Can Now Work Independently (Without a Phone)

Years after mandatory pairing, Shazam on Wear OS can now work without an active phone connection! This is one of the many features the platform brought to it’s Wear OS app this week, via v14.18 update.

Further, the update also added the ability of it’s Wear OS app to function offline, where it saves the music recording whilst offline and searches when the device is connected to the internet.

Shazam on Wear OS Gets Better

Though Shazam is one of the best song-identifying apps out there, it needs to work out a few aspects to make it better. One among them is the dependency of it’s apps running on other platforms.

For example, Shazam on Wear OS is limited and needs an active connection with a phone to function. While frustrating, Shazam rolled in a new update to fix this and allow the Wear OS app to run independently.

Shazam v14.18, available through the Google Play Store, will let users run Shazam on their Wear OS-connected smartwatches with a phone connection. But if you’re not using the Google Account option to sign in, you must open the smartphone app first to ensure everything works without a hurdle.

Once done, Shazam on Wear OS can do everything that it’s smartphone counterpart can do and even sync the recordings in real time across devices. This aside, the Wear OS-based Shazam app can also work offline, partially – like it can store a recording when the device is not connected to the internet and start searching for it when online.
